*....or so the story goes. Once upon a time, Ryan suggested to Melissa that they start a 'blog'. To which Melissa said, "We are not blog people!" And so here we are. We are teaching ourselves photography, taking the camera everywhere with us. This little blog is meant to show off shots we are proud of, and to give you a glimpse into our adventures. Comments always welcome!

French Cannonball

«« prev next »»

Cannonball

At the corner of rue Saint-Louis and du Corps de Garde, in Quebec City, a tree had grown around this cannonball.
-shot by Melissa (the photo...not the cannonball. We don't know who shot it originally)
Update: From Frommers: Lodged at the base of the trunk, one story says that the cannonball landed here during the War of 1759 and over the years became firmly embraced by the tree. Another story says that it was placed here on purpose to keep the wheels of horse-drawn carriages from bumping the tree when making tight turns.

At The Beach With Chopper

Sitting in my beach chair with a book and a beer, I looked up and saw this wonderful scene. I ran and got my camera. I gotta admit, though, I had to throw that stick a lot just to get the dog to stay right there.

Chopper

We finally got a "new" used flash for the camera. Just trying it out. Chopper "volunteered" to model. Ok, he works for cookies. As a matter of fact, so do I.

Stuck in Traffic

Melissa was stuck in traffic at Bathurst & Front. Luckily she had the camera to help kill time. She is aiming the lens through the gap between the driver's side mirror and car door.

Well it is still technically Canada Day as I post this. The dog has jumped up onto my lap at the sound of fireworks outside. I better get back to unpacking our stuff. More cottage adventures to follow.

Maps For Sale

Maps For Sale

Not a stellar photo in this bunch, BUT, a funny story... I spotted this guy walking in front of First Canadian Place selling map books. I thought it was a sweet photo opp. A guy selling maps to cab drivers. I was barely able to pull my camera up and get three shots fired when he spots me. He starts yelling at me and crosses the street. I calmly walk away, not giving any indication of hearing him yelling at me and pursuing me as I walk along King st. "Hey! Gimme that film" "You can't take pictures of me!" "Are you a cop!?!?" "Whats your badge number!!??" Well it wasn't a running chase, but he did finally catch up to me a block or two later. I finally turned to achknowledge him. I told him I was nobody. Just a tourist. He grunted and wandered off. I guess he wasn't an authorised dealer for MapArt.....
